Super Easy Rainbow Rice Recipe
Have you ever wanted to make rainbow rice? It’s a lot easier than you think! We use this rice all of the time for fun sensory activities. Some of our favorite activities include puzzle searches, scoop and pour sensory bins, hide-and-seek stickers, play dough ice cream “sprinkles,” and more! Check out how to make this super easy rainbow rice below!
Here’s How to Make Your Rainbow Rice!
First, add your rice to a large Ziploc bag. You will need as many Ziploc bags as colors you would like to create. I recommend at least five. I like to do a minimum of two cups of rice per color, but I’ve done up to six before, too. It just creates a larger batch!
Next, add your food coloring. My favorite kind of food coloring is the old-school liquid kind. It is generally non-staining and cleans up really well. I add about 10 drops of color to each ziploc bag.
Next, you’ll want to add about 2 Tbsps of Vinegar to your Ziploc bag. It doesn’t smell great but it creates the most vivid colors!
At this point, you just need to shake your bag a ton to combine all of the color, rice, and vinegar. It takes about two minutes to shake and evenly distribute all of the color for this super easy rainbow rice.
Once your rice has a nice, even color, you will want to grab a baking pan. Distribute your colored rice evenly across the pan and let dry overnight. You will need to do this for each of your colors. Don’t worry about the rice sticking. Once dried and combined, it won’t be sticky at all.
Once your rice is dry, mix it all up in a large mixing bowl! This super easy rainbow rice will keep for up to one year in sealed Ziploc bags. We use and reuse this rice for so many different activities. It’s an amazing sensory base and I hope you get as much use out of it as we do!
